Tactical Information Exchange (TIE) / Network Centric Warfare
(NCW) Demonstration
The AS/NZ Chapter of the International Data Link Society (IDLSoc) have sponsored the Tactical Information Exchange (TIE) / Network Centric Warfare (NCW) Demonstration at MilCIS this year. The TIE/NCW Demonstration is based on a Joint Force commanded by Joint Operations Command (JOC) set in the year 2030. The demonstration is intended to:
- highlight the direction for the Australian Tactical Information Exchange Domain and tactical networking within the Australian Defence Force, to provide coherency across organisations and Industry that also aims to improve operational capability;
- detail the recognised issues facing the International Data Link community and the key issues facing Australia Tactical Information Exchange Domain; and
- highlight opportunities, technologies and processes to improve interoperability, connectivity and overall operational capability.
The Demonstration will utilise a central presentation platform to take the audience through the scenario and supported by several Enabling Technology locations. These supporting locations are manned by Industry, providing example opportunities that could assist with some of the Battle Space communication challenges. There will be an opportunity, after the main demonstration, to investigate the Industry manned enabling technologies in more detail.
The enabling Technologies being displayed during the Demonstration are:
- the multi-participant ‘live’ procedural TDL training system;
- the WISE Interoperability Software to manage TIE interfaces from a distance;
- IP networking between TIE and C4 systems for addressing Beyond Line of Sight connectivity;
- IP capable HF Radios providing Point-to-Point JREAP BLOS connectivity;
- the Joint Range Extension Gateway, to translate between VMF and Link 16;
- tactical terminals – that support both Link 16 and VMF combat net radios;
- architecting tools;
- TIE interface management tools; and
- web-based portals to monitor the Common Tactical Picture.
